Wal-Mart Withdraws Lancaster Supercenter Plans

BENTONVILLE, Ark. September 14, 2007 Wal-Mart announced today that they have withdrawn their plans to build a Wal-Mart Supercenter off of Old Union Turnpike in Lancaster. The decision is related to Wal-Mart's recently announced plans to moderate growth of U.S. Supercenters as part of leveraging capital resources through a strategy designed to improve returns, productivity and sales within U.S. stores.

Working with the town of Lancaster has been a pleasure, said Public Affairs Manager, Christopher Buchanan. At this time, our corporation has made the decision that this project is not in sync with our overall growth strategy.

We appreciate the support and relationships that we have built in Lancaster, Buchanan continued. It is this support that allows Wal-Mart to continue to help working America by saving customers money so that they can live better.

Lancaster will still be able to enjoy the benefits of a Wal-Mart Supercenter which is being constructed in Leominster. The new Leominster Supercenter will also serve the Lancaster community and provide jobs, charitable contributions and increased shopping options.
